Wednesday 14th September 2011 commencing at 6.30pm at The Morning Star
This is an open competition in which players represent teams which were prominent during the Football Association Challenge Cup's first decade and a half. No attempt to duplicate the rules in force at the time will be made, but all players will be required to wear suitably Victorian-looking false moustaches (provided), at least for the pre-competition publicity shots. A key aim of the competition is to promote the club as widely and as vigorously as possible, hence the rather quirky choice of theme. Entries are limited to twelve players and participation is expressly not limited to Lincoln Flickers members. If you wish to enter, please complete the entry form at http://lincolnflickers.fullpointsfooty.net/Lincoln%20Flickers/entry_form1.htm, or use one of the other entry methods described on that page. Remember to check the list of entrants in order to see which teams have already been selected.
In order to assist you in selecting your team a list of twelve of the most successful sides of the early FA Cup period can be viewed at http://lincolnflickers.fullpointsfooty.net/Lincoln%20Flickers/teams.htm. Teams painted in the relevant colours by Mark Parker will be used for the tournament. These will be on old-fashioned 2K4 figures and spitfire bases. The cost of entry will be kept as low as possible, but will need to cover the price of the teams not to mention the false facial hair (although if you want to grow some of the real stuff, and it looks sufficiently convincing, you'll qualify for a discount on the entrance fee).
A poster advertising the event can be found here. Please feel free to print it off and display it if you know of somewhere suitable.
Providing a full complement of twelve entries is received the format of the competition will be as follows:
PHASE ONE: The twelve teams will be divided into four groups of three. The finishing positions in these groups will be decided on a round robin basis with each team meeting the others in its group once.
PHASE TWO: 1. The four group winners will play a knock-out series to determine the winner of The Lincoln Flickers Days Of Yore FA Cup. 2. The four group runners-up will play a knock-out series to determine the winner of The Lincoln Flickers Days Of Yore FA Shield; 3. The four third-placed teams will play a knock-out series to determine the winner of The Lincoln Flickers Days Of Yore FA Plate.
There will be trophies for both the winners and runners-up in each competition. However, should the number of entries be lower than twelve the format of the competition will be amended and the number of available trophies may be reduced.
